About
What is better than getting on your bike and stepping inwards in a lush and peaceful mountain landscape, on gravel roads, country roads and paths? Past small ponds, flocks of sheep and over old bridges? And when after a few kilometers you sit on a worn stone staircase with a timber saddle wall in the back and look out over red clover and daisies, then the coffee and packed lunch taste heavenly good.
In Ringsakerfjellet there are approx. 240 summer farms (or mountain farms) on 36 small and large farm lands. The so-called 'Setervangene' are important cultural landscapes located where there were separate soils for grazing and mowing. Today there is no ranching, but sheep and cows still enjoy the juicy pastures.

Every single summer farm has its own history. Here the farm maids lived summer after summer for generations, taking care of the cattle. Ever since the 15th/16th century there must have been summer farms in Ringsakerfjellet. Many stories and legends have been documented by local historians, and it is often extra fun to cycle where you know that something historical or special has happened. For example, when you read about the story of 'Thief-Ola' who lived in a cave near Moste Seter and who was pestering the the hut owners and others staying in the mountains. Maybe it will be more tempting for the youngest to cycle to Moste farm if you go on a hunt for the cave of thief-Ola?
